Abstract

The renewable energy (RE) is a key element for generation of cost-effective, ecofriendly and sustainable electricity. Continuous research is being carried out on RE technologies for increasing the RE generation capacity, mainly in term of energy conversion efficiency. Therefore, present study is planned and designed to meet 7th and 13thsustainable development goals (SDGs) of United Nations. Out of these two goals, SDG 7 deals with affordable and clean energy, while SDG 13 covers climate action. The aim of present article is to understand domestic and commercial fossil fuel-based energy consumptions in developing countries of the world. The study also focused on current situation of global energy resources and strategies being adopted for transition into RE sources.  Besides, it also provides detailed understanding of RE technology’s implication on the economy of such developing nations. Thus, there is an urgent need of transition from non-RE to RE sources and further, to develop sustainable energy resources for clean and affordable electricity to ensure its long-term benefits for the mankind. In addition, emphasis has also been given to current state and trends of sustainable energy, adoption of RE technology and efforts made for de-carbonization by the developing countries worldwide. Such efforts involve a variety of factors such as simplifying administrative procedures, creating local financial systems, setting specific goals for RE, and putting risk reduction measures into action. Moreover, different challenges are being faced by these nations for successful implementation of sustainable energy practices and possibilities to adopt techniques in terms of economy, technical, and energy conversion efficiency are also discussed in the study. It also presents targeted policy recommendations for developing nations in order to promote an enabling environment for the RE investment. Present article may suggest policymakers with different possible solutions to assist these countries by moving towards a sustainable energy future.
