Screening of BC for the adsorptive removal of Cr from water

Abstract
Cr[Cr (VI)] is recognised as a noxious heavy metal that is primarily released by industries (leather tanning, for example). Biochar (BC) is the most promising adsorbent for Cr (VI) adsorption from water. BC is a carbonaceous, highly porous, and selective adsorbent that is produced from various feedstocks. The main objective of the current study is to screen the potent BC for the extraction of Cr (VI) from the water. In the current study, different biochars synthesize from the different feedstocks, which included Arachis hypogaea L. shell, Adhathoda vasica Nees L. leaf and stem, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (stem), Catharanthus roseus (white and pink), Kalanchoe pinnata, Murraya koenigii, Acid activated Adhathoda vasica Nees L.(stem), Acid activated Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (stem), and Magnetic activated Adhatoda vasica Nees L. (stem) Cr(VI) adsorption on various biochars was investigated at pH 7 and a contact time of 2 hours, with an initial concentration of 5 mg/L and 10 mg/L of Cr(VI) and adsorbent doses of 0.5 g/L. The study's findings show that pristine BC (Cr (VI)) has a very low removal efficiency, whereas magnetically activated Adhathoda vasica Nees L. stem BChas a high removal efficiency (around 76%). As a result, magnetically activated Adhathoda vasica Nees L. BChas a high efficiency for removing Cr (VI) and could be used effectively to eliminate Cr (VI) from water. The extraction of Cr (VI) from water by the magneti c activated Adhathoda vasica Nees L. BChas not been explored. Very little literature has been found on the screening of BCfor the extraction of Cr (VI) from water.
